UConn’s Donovan Clingan shares first practices.

STORRS – Friends from tee ball and through high school in Bristol Central, Donovan Klingan and Victor Rosa arrived at UConn as a rookie this fall.

This week brings something new for both of them. Clingan participated in his first pre-season training with the men’s basketball team while Rosa could be the one who kicks UConn back when the Huskies host Fresno State on Saturday at Rentschler Field.

Klingan is expected to play a role on Dan Hurley’s side this season. But Rosa started season four on UConn’s depth chart and didn’t play in the season opener in Utah. But injuries exhausted Jim Mora’s roster, and gave Rosa the opportunity to step up and prove his readiness.

Rosa is listed at number two on the depth chart behind sophomore Defontay Houston. But Houston has a nagging shoulder injury.

Even if Rosa didn’t start, it would be an essential return for UConn. He rushed for 43 yards and landed, and was on the field for 25 shots in a loss to NC State last week.
