Trevor Noah rejects Kanye West Beef: I don’t have beef with him

In a behind-the-scenes TikTok video posted by the host of “The Daily Show” Trevor Noah Shut down a member of the audience who asked him why he used him Kanye West. Alleged beef fell between the two earlier this year after Noah West was condemned for constantly poaching his ex-wife Kim Kardashian on social media. West responded by making racial slurs at Noah on Instagram, which resulted in West being temporarily banned from the platform for a day.

“Why am I dealing with Kanye? This is an interesting way to phrase it because the beef has to go both ways,” Noah told audience members. “It really is. In my limited understanding of the world, beef has always been something that would generally happen between two hip-hop artists. I’ve never really dealt with Kanye West. I was worried about Kanye West.”

the West controversy Over the past few weeks, he has made racist and anti-Semitic comments in various interviews. West has said during the controversial previous media attacks that he suffers from mental illness, which led people to defend West this time over his anti-Semitic comments. Noah didn’t address West’s recent comments specifically, but questioned why the media keep giving West a platform when he’s known to have mental health issues.

Noah said, “If someone tells me they have a mental health problem, they tell everyone that when they don’t take their medication, they are unable to control themselves, and then everyone ignores whether that person is having an episode and they haven’t taken the medication, and then they By promoting the person and then bringing it up… I think sometimes it’s a bit sloppy, to be honest with you.”

“My grandfather had bipolar disorder,” Noah continued. “I’m not saying that Kanye is. I’m just saying that my grandfather was bipolar, and one thing we knew was when he was going through one of his episodes. He can act a certain way and he can do certain things…but our job was to support him. It would be weird for me to go there. ‘Oh, my grandfather has an episode again. I’m going viral tonight!’ ‘I think it’s a little weird.’

“I’m not dealing with a human being who has openly expressed dealing with a mental health issue,” Noah said. “What I have is that we as a society don’t get together around the person and say, ‘Hey, maybe this isn’t the moment to put a microphone in your face so you can go out and say everything.’” If that’s what you want to say when you’re on your medication, that’s a different story. But because you told us that, I won’t sit down and say that.”

Noah concluded by saying that he “has never had beef before” with Kanye West, adding, “I still play ‘College Dropout.’ I still play music. I still love the guy that I think he is. And I understand he’s been through a lot, you know.” And I don’t take it for granted. But I promised myself I would never be the one to sit next to people and cheerfully say things about the people I care about, and also join the group of mourners afterwards and act like I wasn’t a part of it. Lots of people love to mourn It’s on you when you die and they don’t tell you anything when you’re alive. So I don’t know where I end up. But that’s it.”

TikTok below isn’t the first time Noah has addressed his relationship with West. During an interview in August 2022 day miscellaneous Podcast Arena Awardsthe host talked about why he decided to make public comments about West’s behavior in the first place.

“I’ve become more comfortable speaking my mind in situations where I feel like mobs forget we’re dealing with humans,” Noah said at the time. “It’s easy to stand on the sidelines, see a train crash coming and not say anything about it. Then after the train crashes off the rails, we say, ‘Oh, I saw that coming!’ Well then why didn’t you say anything? Especially if you have some kind of system Basically, you have a kind of obligation to tell the truth. You know, you see something and you say something.”

Noah’s last comments came after Howard Stern’s viral reaction For the West’s anti-Semitic comments. Stern compared West to Hitler and criticized defenders of the West who say the rapper has mental health problems.

“Damn this mental illness, it’s a self-defense thing,” Stern said. “You know, like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s just mentally ill. Don’t worry about it… “If he’s mentally ill, why don’t they appoint a supervisor for his money as they did with poor Britney Spears?”
