Co-stars Maverick Jay Ellis, Louis Pullman and Danny Ramirez selected for Sunday’s Super Cup race

Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez and Luis Pullman, who star as elite pilots in the 2022 #1 movie, Top Gun: Maverick, will test a different kind of speed in the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 NASCAR Series Playoff on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway.

The trio will appear in key high-profile roles at the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500, the inaugural race of the ASCAR Cups Series Round 12 (2:30 p.m. CT, TV: USA Network, Radio: SiriusXM Ch. 90, PRN, 95.9 farm locally).

Ellis, who plays Lieutenant Robin “Payback” Fitch in the blockbuster movie, and Pullman, who plays Lieutenant Robert “Bob” Floyd, will act as co-leads and present the “Drivers, Start Your Engines” command to the entire NASCAR Cup Series.

Ramirez, who portrays Lieutenant Mickey “Fanboy” Garcia, will serve as the honorary starter and wave the green flag from atop the junior podium to officially begin the 334-lap, 501-mile playoff race in the first NASCAR Series.

In addition to Top Gun: Maverick, Ellis is best known for his role as the fan-favorite “Lawrence” on the critically acclaimed HBO series and Emmy® nominated series “Insecure,” which earned him an NAACP Image Award in 2018.

Other credits include the FX limited series and Emmy-nominated “Mrs. America,” starred in the hit BET series “The Game” from 2013-2015, and roles in “Masters of Sex,” “Grace & Frankie,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.” . . . recently wrapped production on an Amazon feature, someone I knew.

Pullman currently has starring roles in Amazon’s hit series “Otter Ring,” as well as the recently released adaptation of Stephen Kings Salem. He is also starring opposite Cathy Bates and John Malkovich in Ken’s upcoming movie Thelma Nightmares, which premieres November 10 in the US.

Prior to Top Gun: Maverick, Pullman was best known for his leading roles in the 2018 films The Strangers: Prey at Night and Bad Times at the El Royale. He also starred in the 2019 Sundance favorite Them That Follow, the 2020 film Pink Skies, and George Clooney’s Hulu mini-series “Catch 22” as a lead.

Ramirez is best known for his portrayal of “Joaquin Torres” from the Marvel series “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier” in which he co-starred opposite Anthony Mackie. He was recently seen in Hulu commentator/thriller No Exit and in Netflix’s double timeline drama, Look Both Ways.

Additional film credits include festival favorites such as Sam Levinson’s Assassination Nation (2018 Sundance Film Festival), Kathryn O’Brien’s Lost Transmission (2019 Tribeca Film Festival) and David Rabois the Giant (Toronto International Film Festival 2019).

Tom Cruise stars in the global phenomenon Top Gun: Maverick, which continues to break records, grossing over $1.4 billion at the global box office and is still climbing. The film recently became the No. 5 highest-grossing film in domestic box office history, while at the same time becoming the number one first-week digital selling title ever in the United States and in major regions around the world. The film can still be seen in theaters and went on sale across digital platforms on August 23.

Texas Motor Speedway 2022 will host the NASCAR Playoffs this weekend. The NASCAR Playoffs doubleheader will be highlighted by NASCAR Xfinity Series Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 on Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT on USA Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, PRN), and the NASCAR Cup Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 Series on Sunday ( 2:30 p.m. CT on USA Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, PRN, 95.9 The Ranch).

Lil’ Texas Motor Speedway’s newly renovated 1/5 mile dirt track will begin its racing weekend with the opening C. Bell’s MICRO MANIA. The four-day event (September 21-24) includes practice on Wednesday, qualifying races on Thursday and Friday, and competitions and finals on Saturday. Micro Sprints are smaller versions of the full-size race cars with side-mounted 600cc motorcycle engines that can generate 140 horsepower with similar chassis and body styles to the larger versions. NASCAR stars currently confirmed to participate include Christopher Bell, two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Bush, his son Brixton Bush, Sheldon Creed, Daniel Hemrick, Brett Moffett and John Hunter Nemechic.
