Their passion not only for education but also their willingness to pursue their expectations is something I appreciate when looking back at my departure from HPU.” With their help and effort, I felt very ready to transition from HPU to medical school.”

HPU’s Most Influential Mentor: “My biggest mentors at HPU were trumpet professor, Stephen McHugh, drum set professor, Rusty Smith. They were two individuals I spent a lot of time with over four years of my music education. As a pre-med student, I met them every week to do what Love it – playing music.I developed relationships with them outside of the music training rooms.Dr. James Bambush, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science, was also one of the most influential mentors.Introduced me to the basics of anatomy and was an excellent guide to getting into my current field.Without these three individuals, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

HPU’s Most Influential Moments: “In March 2020, receiving an email that HPU would close down and continue with virtual learning was something that affected not only myself but the entire world. The pandemic affected individuals globally, and at that time my career goals were still on hold. I lost Part of my experience at HPU while witnessing individuals who sacrificed to help those in need helped solidify my future path. I am grateful for the guidance HPU has given students to continue their academic learning and stay on track during difficult times lacking in normalcy.”

How has the inspiring HPU environment contributed to your success? HPU’s extraordinary learning experience begins the moment you pass through the gates, whether or not you are an accepted student. As you walk along the Kester International Promenade, you see quotes and statues of innovative people who changed the world and flags representing each HPU student home country. It’s amazing to see such a small detail in a college campus being used for a much bigger purpose. With so many different clubs and activities for students to join, it is a school built for success. Using the inspiring HPU environment helped me get to where I am today.”

What life skills has HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? HPU does an excellent job of opening doors to opportunities and creating a broad network among faculty and peers who aspire to achieve similar goals. Mastered psychology and introductory curriculum helped me develop time management, which is very important in medical school. HPU’s small class sizes have taught me not to be afraid to speak up, ask questions, and work with other students around me to improve my learning experience. “

What values and virtues did the HPU campus help you develop that you will take with you upon graduation? “I have learned many values from the staff at HPU, including the security team, cafeteria staff, and the campus strengthening team. Watching them serve HPU students with a smile on their faces was nothing to be taken lightly. These individuals work hard to keep us safe and provide for every student. I So grateful to be surrounded by such a caring and hardworking crew, and with them, I learned the importance of serving the community by putting others before you.”

Advice for lower class men: “Introduce yourself to others – you never know who you are sitting next to. Put yourself out there. You may open the door to possibilities you never imagined. Have fun and take pictures. You will look back on these four short years for the rest of your life.”
